Atte Ka Halwa | Wheat Flour Halwa Recipe (healthier version)
In this post I’m not going to share the Gurudwara style of Kadaa Prasad, rather how I made it recently, a healthier version of it.
Imagine how it feels when you are back from a long comforting holidays with your parents, doesn’t matter how hot it is and you suddenly have a long list of to dos, including house chores and settling back to your usual life. This time we had a long road trip, but wasn’t exhausted until we reached bangalore. All these led us especially me to a total energy loss. I needed instant energy to do things smoothly and was craving badly for something sweet, an energy booster. For that fact, I would love to be a bike rider, they carry packs of sweets to munch on their way, isn’t it cool?? LOL
One more condition to make this recipe was I don’t wanted to consume any more calories, as I already gained around 4 kgs. So, if you are craving for a healthy sweet, just go for this one. I did’nt have much dates, so added few. You can add more or less of sweetner used in this recipe. I will later update the post with step by step photos. How to make Atte Ka halwa or Atte Ka Sheera:
- Clean dates 2-3 times in water to remove all the dirts. Deseed and cut it in half. Soak it in 1/2 cup of hot water for about 30 minutes prior making the halwa. Grind it to a smooth paste. Keep it aside.
- Heat ghee in a kadai or a pan. Fry cashews or other nuts of your choice till golden brown and take out and keep it aside.
- Add wheat flour to the ghee and start mixing well till all combined.
- Cook this till the wheat changes its colour to dark golden brown. Keep mixing to avoid burning. It will take around 7- 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile boil the said amount of water (excluding the amount used for soaking dates) in a seperate pan. Add grated jaggery.
- When the wheat ghee mixture is ready and water also boiling with the jaggery melted. Add the boiled water to the wheat mixture using a sieve to filter any dirt particles. Add crushed cardamoms and dates paste.
- Start mixing till well combined. At the starting you will feel the water is too much, but it will get absorbed in no time. Make sure no lumps are present.
- I garnished with fried cashews and roasted melon seeds. Serve it warm.

- 1.5 cups Wheat flour
- 3 cups Water For soaking dates and making halwa
- 2/3 cup Ghee Clarified butter
- 2/3 cup Jaggery grated
- 10 nos Dates
- 6 nos Cardamom crushed
- 1 pinch Salt
- Nuts for garnishing
