Beetroot And Carrot Idli

Beetroot and Carrot Idli are perfect for kids snacks box. The goodness of beets, carrots, lentils and rice are all combined and filled in these tiny idlis. No doubt that the colors are sure to attract them.

Adding jaggery and cardamom to the batter will make it sweet of course and it’s great if in case you don’t want any mess to happen from your kid in school.

 At home, if your kid wants to enjoy it with sambar, avoid adding jaggery and cardamom.  And let them enjoy those soft idlis dunked in hot sambar. Not to forget, even elders can enjoy. A colorful variation from the usual plain idlis are always welcome.

How to make beetroot and carrot idli for kids:

1. Take two seperate mixing bowl. Pour 1 cup of batter to each bowl.
2. Add grated beetroot to one bowl and grated carrot to another bowl.
3. Mix jaggery and cardamom to each of them.
4. Heat water in a steamer. Grease idli plates and pour batter.
5. Place the plates inside the steamer and steam for 5-10 minutes.

6. Let it cool down and demould it.

Recipe Notes

You can make even spinach idli, by adding 1/4 - 1/2 cup of spinach puree. But, jaggery won't suit it. Instead you can add little pepper and salt to the batter. Instead of grated beetroot and carrot, you can blend and use puree. Dosa can also be made out of these batters.
